What is British Pathé TV?
British Pathé, the world’s leading historical film archive, is behind British Pathé TV. It is an online, on-demand channel offering an extensive range of full-length documentaries, interviews and classic movies. It has been created as an alternative to the current mainstream broadcast channels and aims to appeal to specialist audiences, such as history buffs, royal watchers, cinema aficionados and train enthusiasts.
British Pathé TV is a subscription-based service and is designed to complement the existing British Pathé newsreel archive (which will remain free-to-view on its separate website).

Where is your programming from?
British Pathé TV licenses third-party content from esteemed TV documentarians and DVD producers from around the globe. In addition, we have drawn on our own back catalogue of documentaries, presenting to you the very best releases from our 110 years of factual production. This includes high-profile collaborations with the best in the business, such as our co-productions with the BBC. The service also features original content created specially for British Pathé TV, such as Revolution In Colour.
Will new content be added over time?
Yes! British Pathé TV launched with hundreds of hours of programmes, many never-before-seen on TV, but we upload new and exciting content on a regular basis.
What is the difference between British Pathé TV and BritishPathe.com?
British Pathé TV is a subscription-based service featuring long-form documentaries and classic movies.
The British Pathé newsreel archive, on britishpathe.com, is free-to-view and features short-form newsreels and cinemagazines usually of about 3 minutes in duration.
How do I purchase a copy of a film?
Sorry, you can’t purchase a copy of a video to keep. Our service is entirely subscription-based, with no downloads to rent or own. We also can’t guarantee your favourite video will always be available due to licensing restrictions, so please enjoy it while you can!
Can I use clips of these videos in my own projects?
You would require a licence. Please contact email@example.com to obtain one, if the rights are available.
Can I send you my documentary?
Yes, we will consider documentaries for featuring on British Pathé TV. Please send information about your film to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Where do I find information about the company and its history?
We’re glad you’re interested! We’ve provided a detailed history elsewhere on our main website.
Are there any jobs or work experience placements available?
We’re a very small company, so job opportunities don’t come up very often. But we’d be happy to keep your CV on file. Do note that we are not affiliated with the Pathé feature film company.
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer work experience.
Can I visit the archive?
There isn’t much to see! Our collection is entirely digitised so everything is run by computer and our vaults are kept off-site.
I’ve written a script. Can I submit it to you?
British Pathé is an archive of newsreels and documentaries. Although we share the same founder, we are not affiliated with the Pathé feature film company and do not make movies.
How do you pronounce Pathé?
Not how our French founder would have done. Over the years, the company’s name has been anglicised and today we would say “PA-thay”.
