Wensleydale Railway Reborn
Railways • 57m
Still owned by Network Rail, but on a long lease, the Wensleydale Railway opened for business on 5th July 2003 after many years of campaigning and fund raising by the dedicated volunteers.
A million pounds was raised in a share issue which has gone towards opening the line from Leeming Bar to Leyburn.
This programme covers the opening of the line which was the culmination of a few hectic weeks of platform rebuilding following the official handover of the track from Network Rail.
We also re-trace the final freight train to Redmire and the last loco-hauled passenger train in the 1990s.
This programme concludes with a cab ride along the whole route from the cab of the Railway’s Class 107.
